Amazon.com An impressively rigorous, unsentimental, and harrowing look at combat during World War II, Band of Brothers follows a company of airborne infantry--Easy Company--from boot camp through the end of the war. The brutality of training takes the audience by increments to the even greater brutality of the war; Easy Company took part in some of the most difficult battles, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy, the failed invasion of Holland, and the Battle of the Bulge, as well as the liberation of a concentration camp and the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest. But what makes these episodes work is not their historical sweep but their emphasis on riveting details (such as the rattle of a plane as the paratroopers wait to leap, or a flower in the buttonhole of a German soldier) and procedures (from military tactics to the workings of bureaucratic hierarchies). The scope of this miniseries (10 episodes, plus an actual documentary filled with interviews with surviving veterans) allows not only a thoroughness impossible in a two-hour movie, but also captures the wide range of responses to the stress and trauma of war--fear, cynicism, cruelty, compassion, and all-encompassing confusion. The result is a realism that makes both simplistic judgments and jingoistic enthusiasm impossible; the things these soldiers had to do are both terrible and understandable, and the psychological price they paid is made clear. The writing, directing, and acting are superb throughout. The cast is largely unknown, emphasizing the team of actors as a whole unit, much like the regiment; Damian Lewis and Ron Livingston play the central roles of two officers with grit and intelligence. Band of Brothers turns a vast historical event into a series of potent personal experiences; it's a deeply engrossing and affecting accomplishment. --Bret Fetzer

So glad I bought this set... January 10, 2009 A must buy on Bluray for any fan of action and war movies. Im not a fan of David Schwimmer, spelling?, anyway, very interesting and the special effects are on par with Saving Private Ryan. Great writing also.
Best series I've ever watched !!!! January 10, 2009 I originally bought this on DVD, not Blu-Ray.
I usually don't like watching a series because I don't want to be constantly glued to the tube.
To say I was mesmerized with this production would be an understatement. I have never watched TV this long in one day before but I watched the entire series (I believe it is 11 1/2 hours long) on ONE SUNDAY. Went to work tired the next day because I didn't finish until midnight.
When you see the actual men that were portrayed in the movie at the end it really strikes home.
I asked my son who has his own place if he wanted to watch it after I described it to him. He had already heard a great deal about it. After a month I asked him why he hadn't watched it yet. He and his friends are waiting until they also can devote an entire day to it - not my idea - their own.
I decided to let him keep it and get myself another copy. When I saw that Amazon had the Blu-Ray version for the same price that I paid for the DVD copy I ordered it right away.
Hmmm.... Maybe this Sunday. And this time in Blu-Ray!
It was Band of Brothers, but not Blue Ray January 9, 2009 I was really impressed with how fast my order got to me, it was a gift for my son for Christmas. He specifically asked for Blue-ray and I thought that is what he was getting, but he had to take it to a store and pay more money to get the Blue Ray version. I was very upset by this, I just assumed and didn't know what the difference would be, so I didn't pay any attention until he told me Christmas morning that I had purchased the wrong thing, the problem is I didn't, I was just sent the wrong thing. If it had been correct I would have had a raving review for this person.

I love the easy checkout with Amazon.com. I ordered this for my son for Christmas. I got a great price and really fast shipping. He was very happy with the set. It came in a great box to keep all the discs together. Overall extremely happy with the purchase...and more importantly so was my son!!!
The only project that could have bested "Saving Private Ryan". January 9, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have the DVD version and now have the Blu-Ray version. Yes it's THAT good. Tom Hanks didn't feel he was done with the story after "Saving Private Ryan". The amount of reasearch, devotion and energy that went into this project will not soon be eclipsed.
