Amazon.com Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra star in this visually stunning metaphysical tale of life after death. Neurologist Chris and artist Annie had the perfect life until they lost their children in an auto accident; they're just starting to recover when Chris meets an untimely death himself. He's met by a messenger named Albert (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and taken to his own personal afterlife--a freshly drawn world reminiscent of Annie's own artwork, still dripping and wet with paint. Meanwhile a depressed Annie takes her own life, compelling Chris to traverse heaven and hell to save Annie from an eternity of despair. The multitextured visuals seem to have been created from a lost fairy tale. Heaven recalls the landscape paintings of Thomas Cole and Renaissance architecture complete with floating cherubs, while hell is a massive shipwreck, an upside-down cathedral overgrown with thorns and a sea of groaning faces popping out of the ground (one of those faces is German director Werner Herzog). Williams is the perfect actor to play against the imaginative computer-generated imagery--he himself is a human special effect. But the lack of chemistry between Williams and Sciorra is painfully apparent, and the flashback plot structure flattens the story's impact despite its deeply felt examinations of the heart and the spirit. Still, there's no denying Eugenio Zanetti's triumphant production design and the Oscar-winning special effects, which create a fully formed universe that is at once beautiful, eerie, and a unique example of movie magic. --Shannon Gee

Great Film January 1, 2009 "What Dreams May Come" is a great movie that will bring up the question of faith. This is a wonderful life after death metaphysical account of two people trying to find their destiny. By the way, I see from reading the reviews on this site some people have recommend my book, "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," and again I just want them to know how much I appreciate their recommendation, especially at such a excellent site. I wrote this book out of love and for the glory of God and Jesus, not for my own fame or fortune. I welcome people to read my book, I'm sure you'll find this non-fiction account of a loving God just as and inspiring.
What Dreams May Come December 22, 2008 I love this movie, Robin Williams is one of my favorite actors I also own this movie in VHS and wanted to update my collection.
Fascinating movie December 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great life after death tail with Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra. I like Robin Williams in this movie "What Dreams May Come," .I think he did a great job. I wasn't that taken by Annabella Sciorra. I'm not sure why. Maybe the chemistry just wasn't there between the two. There were beautiful depictions of Heaven with the help of Thomas Coles' art work. This was a great love story that begs the question about what one really does after death. If you are curious and want a really great look at what God has installed for you I suggest you read "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone" by John H. Eagan. The author explains his account with God and after reading it you really feel you know who this wonderful, beautiful creator is and what you will do in the afterlife!
THE WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN, BAR NONE! December 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
They should market this bore-fest as a good cure for insomnia.
Over-Acting From Hell. Overacting would say "Damn, Robin Williams overacted in this movie".
There is way too much script, line after line after line of Blah, Blah, Blah! The scenery will change and then more Blah, Blah, Blah occurs!
The critics are so into this movie and it looked neat on the previews, so I unfortunately wasted my money renting it.
Buy it only if you intend to smash it with a sledgehammer. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Top Three December 12, 2008 I put this in my top three movies of all time. A story of true love and commitment. Robin Williams shows he can be in serious movies as well.
