Amazon.com essential video No other person has been a guest on Saturday Night Live as many times as the inimitable Steve Martin, which is what makes SNL's Best of Steve Martin compilation the finest of the series. This collection gives us not only clips of some of the show's funniest moments, but also a sense of how the show has evolved from the 1970s. Earlier monologues were rougher, less staged, but absolutely out of control in the best way, as Martin is given free rein to unleash his "happy feet," play the banjo, and generally explore his zaniness. The earliest clip dates from 1976 and the latest from the mid-'90s, showcasing the program's greatest players throughout the seasons--Chevy Chase, Laraine Newman, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Nora Dunn, David Spade, Jon Lovitz. The beloved classics are here, from "King Tut," with complete Egyptian regalia, to the arrow through the head to, of course, a "wild and crazy guy." Not enough for you? Well, "excuuuuuuse me." Also included are the Coneheads at home (with Martin playing a hapless IRS agent), "Jeopardy 1999," "Common Knowledge" (one of the wittiest SNL sketches ever), and ads for "Rise" and for "Steve Martin's Penis Cream." This collection will satisfy longtime SNL fans and is a great way to show newer fans what comedy is really about. --Jenny Brown

Saturday Night Live: Best of Steve Martin December 29, 2008 Saturday Night Live: Best of Steve Martin
I sincerely recommend this item: -The selected scenes of his shows will make you laugh a lot. -You can verify this artist's talents. Certainly, I am more than eager to see his new picture (The pink panther).
Truly the best of... December 26, 2008 I have order most of the SNL series and they are super funny. They're great.
This was funny, but it could've been better November 13, 2008 I love Steve Martin, but I didn't like his earlier work that much... it wasn't funny to me - it was just silly. I was impressed to find out that he played banjo, which I never knew before. But most of it was funny. In my opinion, I thought the later work that he did was much better and funnier. I was thankful that most of it was later in his career.
TWO OF MY FAVORITE ROUTINES HERE..... October 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a review of the VHS version. I normally do not do movie or T.V. reviews, but I purchased this one and felt I should have my say. The only, and I mean only reason I purchased this one was for Martin's two routines featured here; King Tut and Theodoric of York, Medieval Barber. Of all the skits Martin participated in, these two are my favorite. In fact, they are my favorite skits of all the early SNL show I watched. I was not disappointed! This particular VHS tape includes:
The Festruuk brothers (The Wild and Crazy Guys) Theodoric of York, Medieval Barber Senor Lopez King Tut
It also includes routines by Father Guido Sarducci and the Blues Brothers which are actually pretty funny in themselves.
If you like these routines, you will be happy with this tape. If you do not, you won't. Do remember that taste in entertainment changes with age and try to keep a younger frame of mind when watching.
This tape is 73 minutes long. The quality is good and I certainly have no complaints. Perhaps I will graduate to DVDs one day, but not yet.
